DRAWING COMPETITIONS
In the spirit of free expression
It is not an unknown fact that much of the world’s talent has come from societies bottommost rungs. The skills and flairs that some of the most underprivileged people possess are beyond our imagination. Their spirit of creativity, however, is crushed by their difficult circumstances. Their passions have to give way to more pragmatic concerns, and a child ends up working in the household instead to pursuing his interests. It is to foster and further these children’s creativity and brilliance that we organise drawing competitions periodically for children of a slum and give them prizes, gifts, and tokens.
For each drawing competition, we procure about 500 drawing notebooks and 500 packs of colours to give to each child. The children are then given a topic and one hour to express their ideas. We judge 3 winners at the end and give mementos to all children - along with special gifts to the winners. Bachpan has held 11 competitions as yet, and we continue to keep it going. The materials, gifts and prizes are provided by our volunteer base.
